Why are Plug and Ball 2-way Valves Essential for Controlling Air Flow?

The Importance of Plug and Ball 2-way Valves in Air Flow Regulation

Plug and ball 2-way valves are used primarily to provide control/regulation to air flow. When we refer to the scenario described in Figure 11.27, with one smaller and one larger balloon connected by a tube and a closed valve, the internal pressure is greater in the smaller balloon (P₂) compared to the larger one (P₁), due to the inverse proportionality of pressure with the balloon's radius. By opening the valve, air moves from the smaller balloon to the larger one until equilibrium is reached. Similar principles apply when flushing a ballast tank, where water is drawn in and out efficiently, demonstrating the importance of valves in controlling fluid flow.

Plug and ball 2-way valves are used primarily to provide control/stoppage to air flow. When the valve is closed, it stops the flow of air. When the valve is open, it allows the air to flow through. This is achieved by using a plug or ball mechanism inside the valve that can be rotated or moved to control the opening and closing of the valve.
