How to Calculate Total Resistance in a Circuit?

Understanding Circuit Resistance

When resistors are connected in series in a circuit, their resistances add up to give the total resistance of the circuit. In this case, we have four 100 Ω resistors connected in series.

Calculation of Total Resistance

To calculate the total resistance of resistors connected in series, you simply add up the individual resistance values. Since we have four 100 Ω resistors, the total resistance would be:

Total Resistance = 100 Ω + 100 Ω + 100 Ω + 100 Ω

Total Resistance = 400 Ω

Therefore, when you test the circuit with a digital VOM, you should read a total resistance value of 400 Ω.
